Lyons Press, an imprint of Globe Pequot Press, is proud to announce the March 25, 2014, release of TANKED: The Official Companion, by Wayde King and Brett Raymer (978-0-7627-9681-6; $26.95 hardcover), an insider’s look at the hit Animal Planet show enjoyed by millions of viewers.
Charismatic and comedic brothers-in-law Wayde King and Brett Raymer build outrageous, one-of-a-kind tanks for some of the most striking fish—and clients—around. No job is too big, too far or too outlandish as they and their team at Acrylic Tank Manufacturing (ATM) in Las Vegas make the dreams of fellow fish enthusiasts a reality. They’ve created tanks, ranging from 50 gallons to 1 million, that have been installed in everything from cars, beer kegs, and phone booths to pyramid and treasure chests. Their work has been seen in unusual and unique locations including casinos, churches, hospitals, mansions, museums and restaurants.
TANKED: The Official Companion tells how King and Raymer climbed to the top of the shark-infested world of custom aquariums. With first-person essays from each cast member, detailed overviews of ATM’s top builds, never-before-told stories from behind the scenes, celebrity testimonials, the Official ATM “Get Started” Aquarium Guide and fun sidebars like “Fish Facts” and “Ten Great Beginner Fish,” the book provides another great way to get Tanked.
Some of Wayde and Brett’s most memorable episodes include builds for celebrity clients. Neil Patrick Harris taught the guys a thing or two about Houdini, while Wayde and Brett taught him a thing or two about the magic of aquariums. Tracy Morgan went crazy for his shark-themed basement tank and hijinks ensued when the executive producer of Jackass wanted a two-ton saltwater tank for his man cave.
Additionally, they built a 70,000 gallon aquarium for a Dallas megachurch, created a ship tank to help ease the recovery of a child after heart surgery and a treasure chest for a children’s hospital. The Las Vegas Monte Carlo commissioned a jellyfish tank for its subzero cocktail lounge and a mini golf course was rockin’ when legendary rock band KISS came by to celebrate the unveiling of the over-the-top tank at their themed venue.
